RenameClick is a local-first desktop app for macOS and Windows that renames, organizes, and searches files by their actual content instead of messy original filenames.

Drop in photos, PDFs, or documents, review AI-generated names and categories, then apply changes when you're ready. AI Search helps you find files by meaning, and Auto Flow can watch folders like Downloads or Scans and process new files automatically.

By default, processing runs on-device with the built-in local model, so no cloud is required. Optional providers such as OpenAI, Google Gemini, Alibaba Cloud, LM Studio, and Ollama are available if you want a different setup.

RenameClick also supports right-click integration in Finder and File Explorer, EXIF-based naming patterns, custom instructions, and undo/redo.

A dedicated GPU with 4 GB VRAM is recommended for local processing. RenameClick can fall back to CPU and system RAM when GPU memory is unavailable, but actual speed depends on the hardware and file.

Processing speed depends heavily on your GPU: the more powerful the graphics card, the faster RenameClick can analyze files. For example, an RTX 4060 processes about 1 file in ~0.7 seconds, so 1,000 files take about 700 seconds - about 12 minutes. Local processing still runs one file at a time for stability, and large images, multi-page documents, CPU fallback, LM Studio CPU inference, or cloud provider/network choice can change the real result.

The default local model is intentionally small, so you should not expect miracles from it. It handles the vast majority of renaming and sorting tasks well, but some specialized workflows need a smarter and larger model. In those cases, use LM Studio or Ollama as providers and choose a model that fits your PC resources, including newer and stronger models as they become available.

Yes. RenameClick is offline-first: local AI runs on your device and works without an internet connection. If you choose cloud providers (OpenAI, Google AI, or Alibaba Cloud Qwen 3.5 Flash), those features require internet and your own API keys.

Drag supported files or folders into RenameClick. The selected provider analyzes their content and suggests names. Review, edit, retry, or deselect rows, then click Apply for the selected changes.

Yes. Install the optional Audio Transcription capability in AI & Models, then add MP3, WAV, FLAC, M4A, or AAC recordings. RenameClick transcribes speech locally and uses that context to suggest clear filenames. With Local AI selected, the audio, transcript, and filename generation stay on your device.

Yes. AI analysis of supported files is unlimited on the Free plan. AI Search by content is also free and does not consume apply credits. The plan includes 30 successful applied renames or moves per month. For unlimited apply operations, upgrade to Pro Monthly ($8/mo) or Pro Lifetime ($48 one-time).

Yes. Use Rename only. Files stay in their current folder, and RenameClick only changes the selected filenames when you apply.

Yes. Use Categorize only / Move to folder. Files keep their original names, and RenameClick moves them into folders chosen by AI categories, metadata folders, or Match folders.

Yes. Metadata folder presets can build folder paths from dates, EXIF fields such as location, camera, and lens model, raw metadata fields, and fixed text. Missing values can use a configured fallback folder.

Yes. Format patterns can combine AI-generated names with file dates and EXIF placeholders such as $exif{date}, $exif{camera}, $exif{city}, $exif{country}, or any raw EXIF field. EXIF placeholders work for images with EXIF data; file date placeholders work for all supported files.

Yes. Custom Instructions let you write your own naming prompt for a workflow, such as extracting vendor, invoice number, and date from invoices. The prompt controls the filename output; sorting still uses the file content and selected sorting preset.

RenameClick's AI File Organizer reads file content and organizes files into meaningful folders using saved sorting presets. The File Organizer UI can use AI categories to choose from presets like Documents or Media Files. Metadata folders build paths from date fields, EXIF fields, and text levels, such as Location / Year / Month / Day. Match folders scans the selected output folder and lets AI route new files into its existing subfolders, for example client or project folders. If no Match folders destination is a reasonable fit, the file stays uncategorized and is applied to the output folder root.

Local AI Settings let you fine-tune the local AI engine to match your hardware. You can adjust: Context Size (token window, affects memory usage), Text Trim (max characters from documents), Custom Prompt Length (character limit for instructions), and Max Categories (expand from 8 to 20). A token calculator shows estimated usage for different scenarios. Access via the gear icon next to Local provider in Provider Settings.

RenameClick is available for macOS (Apple Silicon and Intel) and Windows. Download the version that matches your operating system from the official website.

The Local provider downloads a model of about 4 GB on first use. After that download, local processing can run without an internet connection.

Yes, if the cloud provider's desktop sync app makes the files available in Finder or File Explorer. Drag the synced files or folder into RenameClick, or use Auto Flow on the local synced folder. Browser-only cloud folders are not supported.

Yes. Auto Flow watches folders for new or changed files and can rename, categorize, and move them automatically. Each watch row has its own source, destination, format, prompt, language, sorting preset, and Auto Apply setting.
